Tews Lane, Barnstaple

Linden Homes Strategic commissioned us to undertake a land appraisal for this site on the western edge of Barnstaple in North Devon. Initial forecasts identified the site had capacity for up to 350 residential dwellings.

Focus on Design were then appointed to produce a preliminary concept plan to initiate discussions with North Devon District Council. Following support from the Council for the redevelopment of the site and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, we designed a Masterplan for 350 residential dwellings plus land for the provision of a new primary school.

We were then commissioned to design and provide a full set of exhibition boards to support two public consultations. This was well attended by the public, key stakeholders and local ward members.

Working closely with the District and County Council, Outline consent was successfully achieved.

Following the sale of part of the land for 86 properties, we were then commissioned to undertake the architectural and civil engineering design work for 264 properties on the retained land by the Linden Homes South West region.

Simultaneously, we were also commissioned to undertake the architectural and civil engineering design for 86 properties on the land sold to Cavanna Homes.

The properties, some of which were individually designed for the site, incorporate high quality traditional design that reflect the local North Devon vernacular.

Both parcels have now been approved totaling 350 residential properties.
