Ottery St Mary, Devon
We were commissioned by the landowner as a ‘fresh pair of eyes’ to assist in the wholesale regeneration of this brownfield site, which had been redundant for many years. This followed their refusal of a previous planning application.
The site forms a gateway into Ottery St Mary and contains the former ‘Town Mill’, associated buildings and a unique ‘tumbling weir’; which were all grade 2 listed.
Alongside a specialist team of technical experts, we had developed and coordinated a proposal for the conversion of the listed mill buildings that was in a severe state of disrepair into 30 new homes, alongside the development of 43 new homes and a retirement complex of 28 homes; which were required to ‘enable’ the successful rescue of these important listed assets.
After very positive community engagement, pre-application discussions together with detailed discussions with English Heritage and the local planning authority; planning consent was achieved and welcomed by the local community to bring back to life a part of Ottery St Mary’s proud heritage.
